AVT FireWire Cameras

Allied Vision Technologies offers a wide range of machine vision cameras with the FireWire interface. AVT is the
supplier of choice for cameras used for industrial inspection, automation, medical imaging, scientific research, traffic
monitoring, security, and many other demanding applications. There are 5 lines of FireWire Cameras offered:

guppy

Very small, lightweight industrial FireWire camera- inexpensive

The Guppy is a very small, lightweight, inexpensive industrial FireWire camera. Guppy cameras are equipped with a large variety of renowned CCD and CMOS sensors by Sony and Micron/Aptina - the versatile Guppy series provides the right camera for almost all kinds of applications. Two interlaced models with ultra sensitive sensors (Guppy F-038B/C and F-044B/C) ensure an easy, cost-effective move from analog to digital cameras. On request, board level versions are available.

  • IEEE 1394a (400 Mb/s)
  • CCD and CMOS sensors (1/3, 1/2, 1/2.5), 10 models (VGA to 5 Megapixel), max frame rate (full resolution): 6.5 fps to 64 fps
  • Guppy F-038B/C and F044B/C also available as NIR version (enhanced near infrared light sensitivity)
marlin

Acclaimed bestseller digital IEEE 1394 machine vision camera

The Marlin is AVT`s classical most-sold IEEE 1394 machine vision camera. Since 2004, many thousand Marlins are part of various different image processing applications. Due to its modular design (angled head, side-entry connectors, AVT modular concept), it fits with almost every application. The seven camera models are equipped with renowned Sony CCD sensors (exception: Marlin F-131B with CMOS by Cypress). The Marlin includes many beneficial real-time image pre-processing functions. Just like all other AVT cameras, it has a robust housing and is available as medical design version.

  • IEEE 1394a (400 Mb/s)
  • Sony CCD sensors (1/3, 1/2, 1/1.8), 2/3 CMOS sensor
  • 7 models (VGA to 2 Megapixel), max frame rate (full resolution): 7.5 fps to 73 fps
  • FIFO: 8 MB
  • Marlin F-131B also available as NIR version (enhanced near infrared light sensitivity)
stingray

Mid-price, high quality – many advanced features – 1394b – customizable

The Stingray is a mid-price IEEE 1394b camera with excellent image quality. It incorporates an advanced set of camera features. Thanks to its modular and flexible design (angled heads, board level versions, AVT modular concept…), the Stingray is a versatile, powerful camera for almost all applications (the "Transformer camera").The Stingray is an ideal OEM camera.

Stingray cameras are available with daisy chain FireWire connectors or with both copper and GOF (glass optical fiber, ideal for long cable lengths) ports. Acclaimed Sony CCD sensors and high-end image pre-processing functions are included - a mid price Stingray IEEE 1394b camera is even suitable for very demanding requirements.

  • IEEE 1394b (800 Mb/s), daisy chain copper or copper and GOF
  • Sony CCD sensors (1/3, 1/2, 1/1.8, 2/3)
  • 7 models (VGA to 5 Megapixel),
max frame rate (full resolution): 7.5 fps to 75 fps
  • FIFO: 32 to 64 MB
pike

Very high frame rates, fast – 1394b – powerful features – modular, flexible

The Pike is a fast IEEE 1394b camera for demanding applications (e.g. industrial and medical imaging). Numerous pre-processing functions produce an outstanding image quality. Pike cameras operate with very high frame rates.

Pike cameras include extraordinary image pre-processing functions like the High SNR mode (up to 24 dB better signal-to-noise ratio).

Pike cameras are availabe both with two copper ports (for daisy-chaining) and with copper/GOF (glass optical fiber) ports.

  • IEEE 1394b (800 Mb/s), daisy chain copper or copper and GOF
  • Sony and Kodak CCD sensors (1/3, 1/2, 2/3, 1, 1.2)
  • 6 models (VGA to 5 Megapixel), max frame rate (full resolution): 15 – 208 fps
  • FIFO: 64 MB
oscar

High end camera - Microscopy - Ophthalmology - 1394a - b/w output interpolation modes

The Oscar series consists of three models (3, 5 and 8 Megapixel) with very sensitive CCD sensors, sophisticated image pre-processing functions, and an outstanding image quality. All Oscar models are color cameras, and include additional b/w output interpolation modes:

  • 3, 5 and 8 Megapixel
  • B/W signal out of luma interpolation (Y = 0.3R + 0.6G + 0.1B)
  • B/W signal out of R, G or B channel information

Benefits of the b/w output interpolation modes:

  • In some applications, such as ophthalmology with contrast input, only one color is needed for evaluation.
  • For applications with monochromatic lighting, noise can be reduced by using only the respective color channel instead of the fully interpolated luma signal.
  • The Oscar can use the three primary colors (R, G and B) separately and output them in a reduced data monochrome mode.
