Smart Cameras have come a long way but don't think for a second that they can do complex or high speed quality inspection. Get the details on Smart Camera shortcomings with our FREE WHITE PAPER: 13 Little Truths About Smart Cameras. Don't let the Smart Camera limitations catch you.
Boulder Imaging’s Vision Inspector™ solutions are the most advanced intelligent machine vision systems for precise, micron-level, in-line or off-line metrology and surface defect detection on virtually any material.
Vision Inspector™ systems provide:
Each Vision Inspector™ system is designed with Centralized Inspection Point Technology (CIPT)™ to perform multiple inspections on a single configurable inspection point on the line and reduce multiple (and often disparate) inspection systems. Integrate any combination of monitoring, inspection, and measurement capabilities into a single inspection cell or any number of cells anywhere on the production line.
CIPT supports LEAN manufacturing processes: it is highly adaptable and can grow as requirements and hardware configurations change. CIPT can result in significant cost savings when compared with adding multiple standalone smart-camera based inspection points.
Vision Inspector consists of four unique products, each designed to meet 100% of your specific needs: Benchmark, Beacon, Premier, and Guardian. Each can be implemented individually or integrated to provide a more comprehensive vision solution for your entire manufacturing environment.
Vision Inspector™Benchmark – in-line or off-line metrology
Benchmark, our Vision Inspector™ coordinate measuring machine (CMM), provides:
Benchmark also provides accurate, high-precision in-line or off-line measurement of 2D, flat part, sheet metal, gasket, and other precision manufactured items. With Benchmark you obtain immediate, accurate, and complete micron-level inspection and measurement.
Vision Inspector™Beacon – in-line or off-line surface defect detection
Beacon is an in- or off-line high performance machine vision inspection system that detects defects, characteristics, or non-uniformities in parts (metal, plastic, glass, rubber, etc.), web materials (such as paper), and coatings (such as paint, ink, film, etc.). Beacon can be customized to address your specific inspection needs. Complete systems include lighting, appropriate high speed, high resolution camera(s), and optics for your particular application. Beyond simple pass/fail, Beacon can segregate and categorize defective or non-uniform parts and materials. Stop-points in production can be implemented to allow the production manager or process engineer to identify and correct production line problems in real time. Beacon can be built to easily integrate into your current production environment (including robotics) or Boulder Imaging can specify and deliver the automation or robotic system appropriate to your needs.
Vision Inspector™ Premier – in-line or off-line metrology and surface defect detection in a single inspection platform
The Premier system provides all of the functions and features of our Benchmark and Beacon systems. Premier provides a single platform for surface defect detection and anomaly detection, as well as micron-level in-line or off-line metrology.
Vision Inspector™ Guardian– powerful in-line system monitoring system
Guardian provides system monitoring to ensure that your machinery and processes are functioning within desired specifications. Any anomalous behavior creates a fault condition, which triggers alerts as well as line adjustments (e.g., stops, slow-downs) and results in significantly less product waste and system downtime. Guardian also provides insight into historical downtime and employee response time to aid in process improvement.
Complete Manufacturing Quality Control
Boulder Imaging designed the Vision Inspector™ line to work independently or as one coherent inspection, monitoring, and quality control solution. When combined, the Vision Inspector™ line provides the most comprehensive, flexible, and integrated machine vision solution available.
Benchmark confirms high precision parts meet the most stringent demands and Beacon provides quality control of high speed, high volume production. All the while, Guardian stands watch to ensure production equipment and processes are operational and provide notification in the case that there is a potential problem.
In combination or individually, Vision Inspector™ systems provide a powerful way to improve efficiency, increase output, and reduce costs. All systems have built in reporting capabilities, thus providing forensic root cause analysis, all from a single platform. With extremely high reliability, the Vision Inspector™ line delivers accurate information for immediate adjustment of production machinery and processes, thereby saving valuable materials and labor, and eliminating guesswork.
Case Study: A Fortune 10 Company Deploys the Vision Inspector BenchmarkSolution on a Massive Structure
As the world goes “green” the optimization of wind turbines to extract the maximum amount of energy from every last rotation becomes critical. In the development of massive wind turbine blades, mechanical engineers had a challenge on their hands: how do you create the most optimal wind turbine design?
Boulder Imaging provided high resolution video recordings of the airflow over their wind turbine blades for qualitative analysis.
Vision Inspector™ provided motion analysis as well as metrology tools needed to obtain real-time, scientific-grade kinematic data for optimal structural and material engineering. Boulder Imaging’s engineers were able to collect kinematic data across multiple data points on a rotating 50 meter turbine blade exposed to the environment, and to detect incredibly small variations (accuracies of 1 millimeter and 1/10 degree) of blade flex and twist. Data needed not only to be collected but also processed in real time, which required significant processing power and storage. Attaining a high level of accuracy with such a large object flexing in changing environmental conditions (wind speeds, light, water buildup, fog, etc.) meant developing an innovative, powerful solution – just the right challenge for Boulder Imaging engineers.
The final result was precise measurement of the kinematics of the wind turbine blade correlated to wind speed, direction, energy production, efficiency, etc. This data provided invaluable scientific-grade feedback to develop optimally designed wind turbine blades. The company’s engineers found and measured unexpected results immediately and allowed them to revisit models and make engineering design adjustments, thus saving a tremendous amount of time and money before construction development was fully in place.
